Retirement of two pillars of the IoT & RFID

Members of the AIoT Canada may not be aware, but two pillars of the Internet of Things and its enabling RFID technologies have announced their retirement in the past two months.

Mark Roberti, founder of RFID Journal and early champion of Kevin Ashton's vision of the IoT, announced his retirement last week.  I've been following the editorial content of him and his team for over a decade, and attending the annual RFID Journal Live conference since 2013.

Steve Halliday, president of RAIN RFID, over 100 billion devices strong, announced his retirement at the most recent RFID Journal Live in Vegas in May, which I had the pleasure to attend.  I've promoted the standardisation and interoperability afforded by RAIN since 2014, which I am pleased to be integrating with reelyActive's open source technologies.

If you haven't heard of Mark and Steve, I hope you can take a moment to appreciate their contributions, as well as to appreciate that it will require the tireless efforts of others like them to continue advancing AIoT and its commercial success!  The AIoT Canada community has a huge opportunity and big shoes to fill!
